Dr. Bin Zhang is a Principal Scientist and Group Leader of Sage Bionetworks, a non-profit research organization started in 2009 that grew out of a decade of intense well-funded work at Rosetta Inpharmatics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co. His expertise lies in bioinformatics and computational biology, pattern recognition and data mining. He has been leading several large scale genomic and genetic studies for biomarker and target identification and his work has significantly contributed to the drug development pipelines in several large pharmaceutical companies. His research interests include: 1) reconstruction of gene regulatory and association networks, 2) identification of biomarkers and gene targets for human diseases including cancer, obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer's and Huntington’s, 3) quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis and genome-wide association studies (GWAS), 4) identification of k-cliques, modules and overlapping communities in gene and protein association networks, 5) prediction of genetic interactions in yeast and human, 6) combination therapy (multiple target identification), and 7) feature extraction, data mining, image processing, and pattern classification and recognition.
