Several tenured positions are available to assist Dieter Wolf - a Scholar of the Foreign 1000 Talent Program and Professor at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in La Jolla – in directing a newly established program in cancer biology and drug development at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) at Xiamen University (XMU).
In recent years, SPS (pharm.xmu.edu.cn) has made a major effort in recruiting top international talent in order to realize its mission to identify novel cancer therapeutics through basic research and translational studies. The school offers state-of-the-art resources for modern biological research and drug discovery, including facilities for robotic drug screening, MS-based proteomics, and medicinal chemistry. SPS educates in excess of 300 students at the Master’s and Ph.D. Levels.
The advertised positions are to co-direct ongoing efforts in the identification of novel drug targets in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), a major health issue in China and beyond. Related studies aim at the development of new PDX models of CRPC for molecular profiling and drug testing. A third area concerns mechanisms controlling protein synthesis, their roles in cancer, and their potential as novel drug targets.
The rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of academic achievement. Whereas the primary appointment will be at XMU, the positions will provide ample opportunities for interactions and exchange with the San Diego-based parts of the research team.
