In 2002, He went to USA joined Department of Molecular Biology, School of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as a Research Fellow, and in 2005, he joined Department of Microbiology & Immunology, School of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago as research associate and research scientist, respectively. He was recruited to Xiamen University as associate professor of the school of pharmaceutical sciences since 2013.

Research

Dr. Li's group is focusing on investigating the etiology of cancer and diabetes mellitu aimed to developing the therapeutic strategies and agents for cure of these diseases. More specifically, there are two research groups in his lab: 1): in cancer research group, there are focusing on investigation the etiology of cancer, like liver cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer, and trying to identify the biomarker for development the diagnosis kits for early detection and the novel leads for cure of cancer. 2) in diabetic research group, they have mainly focused on, either in functional recovery of pancreatic islets or in endogenous regeneration of damaged pancreatic islets.
